Day 6: Discovering the Laneways

For our last day in Melbourne we decided to explore the city some more and this time it was much more enjoyable as Satan's Fury (the 104 temps) and our sunburn stings were gone. We started out with a delicious brunch spot in one of the laneways: Hardware Societe. It came highly recommended via Yelp and our concierge and it definitely did not disappoint. I had french toast with a coconut lime creme and cherries and ate every. single. bit. Food coma to the extreme.

Trying to put in instagram photo of our brunch... not sure if this will work or not :)

Then we explored Melbourne's famous laneways--collections of graffiti art, bars, restuarants, and other cool things nestled in the alleyways of the city. Below is the record of our tour.

Some of the graffiti found in the laneways, pretty impressive stuff

We should have had afternoon tea! Really regretting this because that looks like all the noms. And a view down one of the more populous and less graffitied laneways.

This is what we girls would looke like if we decided to change our mouths and the bottom half of our faces. We found a store called Larry! (for our pal Larry).

This is the train station? Sure, yep. But cool architecture.

We snuck a peek into the cathedral and took disallowed photos while there was a mass going on. But we were very, very quiet.

More graffiti! I especially love this second to last one because it really is quite difficult to read some of these. But we'll take pictures and admire the colors anyway.

Next we meandered over to the Royal Gardens to get some views of the greens and flowers.

Some pretty views of downtows from the walk

Then we visited the Shrine of Remembrance to the veterans and those who lost their lives during WWII. We took this moment to rest our feet for a bit because we'd already done quite a bit of walking.

And lastly, a beer at Munich Bierhaus to wrap up the day before we head to Christchurch.
