So I'm a day late...

Sorry about that. This week has been another good one. We were going to go to Vienna this weekend but decided that since we already have so many booked weekends that we would stay home for this one. Aren't you glad? Haha, I know Mom is so she doesn't have to worry about me spending more money.

But let's see, what's new since Sunday? Not very much. We had a good week of just walking around and exploring some more. My Monday and Tuesday classes were kind of boring; Finance just isn't so interesting and Art and Architecture was just a lot of lecturing and was sad because where she wanted us to go was closed. Wednesday was a bit brighter with Economics of Post-Communist Countries. The teacher kind of reminds me of Mr. Sturgeon but not quite as strict. He's a sweet old man, so it's been a fun class so far. And Management is always good, I really enjoy that class and it seems like the one I am going to get the most out of.

But as for things other than school, Wednesday night was Lindsay's birthday, who lives upstairs so we went out to Buffalo Bill's an American style, TexMex kind of restaurant. It was really good. I had something called Tostada Grande and you better believe I cleaned my plate. It was delicious goodness. It was a little more expensive than what I have decided I like to spend but it was good to get something similar to what I can find at home.

Kayla and I kept up the Hispanic food when we ate at this place in one of my guidebooks called La Casa Blu. It was Chilean food and really good as well. And although not as cheap as home, it was pretty cheap. So we were excited and it was good to actually go there and get to eat! Then we went exploring some and just walked around Wenceslas Square and went into some stores because Kayla was looking for a new outfit. They have some amazing stores here that we don't have at home. It's like the clothes equivalent to sensory overload. It's awesome!

Today when we woke up we got ready and went to eat at another Guidebook restaurant called Bee's. It's a vegetarian place but I'm always willing to try any food once, so we went. It was really good as well and also cheap. It was Indian food I believe so it was curry and some veggies and rice and a little salad and even some soup that may or may not have seaweed? The soup was the only thing I didn't finish, but even it wasn't that bad. We may definitely be going back there.

After eating, we got a cookie at the Bake Shop down the street and I swear this thing was huge! It was like an inch thick towards the center and almost as big as my hand. Crazy! Then we went off walking in search of some pubs and stuff that Czech people frequent so that we could try them out some night. We ended up walking for about an hour and a half just looking around and finding some cool buildings and getting ideas for future strolls. I really enjoy just walking around Prague, it's so beautiful!

So that's been my somewhat boring week. Nothing really too exciting. Although I am trying to get better at Czech. Some of our roommates are in the class so I'm getting them to give me tips. Now I can ask people how they are and respond in like, kind of cool. So I'll try to post some pictures soon, but until Sunday, nashledanou (that means bye)!

Sisterhood of the Traveling Boots

So, here it is Sunday, and I am updating being a good little girl =) This weekend has been a good one. With half of our apartment gone we've taken it slow and gone out and explored.

Friday we went out and tried to visit some of the spots we had marked up as spots from the movies. We started out over by school and visited the Lennon wall. It was really cool to look at and to just see all the history. The Wall was the site of student rebellion against the Communist regime and was constantly filled with anticommunist sentiments. Now, the graffiti and drawings are in remembrance of that time and in honor of Lennon and the icon he was for the Czech students during Soviet rule; most of the writings include Beatles lyrics and encourage peace and love. All three of us, Kayla, Brigid, and me, added our own to the collection so now if any of y'all have a chance to see it, look for our contribution!

After that we went to Kampa Island, an island that was used during the filming of Mission Impossible. It's said to be Prague's own Venice since it's an island separated from the mainland by the Vltava river. It was really pretty and had some beautiful buildings. It also seems to house many of the embassies/ambassador's homes. I got some pictures of a couple and put them up in my latest post. Also on Kampa we found the babies that climb the TV tower. There were some in the middle of the park (also pictures in last post). They are really odd looking since they don't have faces. I wasn't expecting that. We want to go to the actual TV tower so we can get an good pic of the babies climbing it. It's an example of the modern art in Prague.

After fooling around in the Castle district we went on a journey to find Wenceslas Square. Supposedly, it is right near us but we had a little difficulty and never did find it. However, we did find some good stores for shopping! =) Apparently we were so close but didn't even know it. But after 4 hours of walking around, we decided to call it a day.

Then Saturday we got up and tried again to find Wenceslas Square. We found it, in a very round about way, but we did find it. We saw the National Museum, also in countless movies, and the Grand Hotel Evropa, in Mission Impossible. There were tons of people on the square, so I guess it was peak time when we went. Apparently this square is also know for having the most McDonald's in such a small area; somebody told us there were 6 just on the square. That's crazy! So we walked up and down the square and then, because it was cold and a little rainy, called it quits and went home, which was quite easy since we found where we had been Friday exploring... only a turn away. We felt like idiots, haha.

We still have quite a few spots on our movie sites list but some of them will require a day trip to a city a little outside of Prague or to places where we would have to ride the Metro and/or take a tram. So another day for those. I also can't wait to go explore some of the other cities in Europe. Right now, we plan on visiting Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Athens, Santorini (Greece), and Venice, so you can look forward to all those pictures and stories! We may also try to hit up some bus rides to Budapest and Vienna which aren't too far away and are pretty cheap fare wise.

But that has been our weekend so far. We're taking a bit of a day off for today since some of the girls are feeling a little under the weather. So until Thursday... ciao! Hope you all have a great week!
