Day 9: Fjording to Bergen

And now it's time for one of the things I was most looking forward to on the trip, the FJORDS!!! We rented a car to make the astoundingly beautiful 7 hour drive from Oslo to Bergen and it was breathtaking.

Sarah (not pictured) was apparently dying so we took a picture without her. Our first fjord sighting from the car. This was just the beginning.

The great part about driving is you can stop whenever you want for photo opportunities.

Like this really rickety old bridge that was only slightly terrifying.

A gem along the way: the Borgund Stave Church that we did not even know was a thing, but were told about by the nice lady at the local visitor info center. Apparently everyone instagrams this place, so we knew we had to make a stop.

And do Senior portraits.

JK, well, we did do that, but we also got some fab photos of the church!

Definitely unlike any church I have every seen before. Seems uber gothic but also has a kind of dark grace about it.

We didn't go in because it cost more money than we thought it was worth, so you will have to be satisfied with the photos of the outside, that we were probably, maybe supposed to pay for to get? But we didn't know so we'll play dumb.

More scenic wonderness. We stopped again to get some amazing photos of this waterfall.

And got rashes from poison ivy for our trouble. We climbed down the bank from the bridge you see in the center, but the poison ivy was totally worth it. And washing my hand off in the nice, cool glacier water seemed to make it all better! Or at least definitely helped.

Now in the mountains, we decided a stop of photo opps on land.

But also of some lakes on the top. They were cool.

But the best part was definitely this scenic lookout. I mean, just WOWWWWW. It was so gorgeous.

See for yourself in this video.

The little platform made for a perfect view point.

I still can't get over how awesome this was.

And thankfully not far away from there, as we were all getting hangry, was this local brewery with wonderful beer and food.

Even in the middle of Norway you can get delicious things if you're willing to pay an arm and a leg.

We were waiting for Sarah and Daniel to do something so we decided to take lots of photos.

West complained that the first one wasn't good enough so I had to step my game up.

Golly look how expensive gas is!!!

But we finally made it to Bergen! This amazing little city on the western coast of Norway. We celebrated by taking more photos in tourist shops.

And with the iconic buildings along the bay.

This is a dreary and nube version of the famous Bergen row houses. Sarah wanted a Viking hat really bad, that and a horn to drink out of. Still waiting for her to actually buy it though. And we have more creepy dolls. Don't you want this gem in your house, staring at you from your shelves, looking like it will attack just when you look away? Yeah, me neither.

More souvenir fun with things we didn't buy. And jerky! all the jerky! And would you look at how massive those crabs are!

Whale jerky is apparently a thing? Then we stumbled upon some more pretty buildings. This gazebo was one of my favorites.

Deep thoughts from graffiti. And then we watched as all the high school seniors do a toga pub crawl to celebrate the end of high school. Sounds pretty legit.

Stones! Flowers!

And one of the nice men who served us fish for a small fortune. He loved West's hat and asked for a picture of himself in it.

All in all, despite the rain, it was a great little evening in Bergen!
