Day 2: The Scenic World of the Blue Mountains!

For our second day, we spent most of our time outside of Sydney while we explored the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountain Range is about an hour outside of Sydney and is quite beautiful! It's a range that used to be rocks that were underwater but were pushed above sea level due to tectonic shifts at some point a long time ago. The mountains aren't actually blue but as you'll see in the photos below they look blue from far off which is how they get the name.

We also went to Scenic World! To see the 3 sisters that are still visible from the 7 original sisters, an allegory used to teach the original Australians, the Aboriginees, the value of being able to read the stars. Scenic World had a cable car that traversed a portion of the canyon, the world's steepest railway, and another cable car that brought us back to the lip of the mountain. Pictures below to help you with the visuals :)

Hanging out in the back of the bus like cool kids: Daniel, Matt, myself and then Sam jumped in for the last one

Unhappy about being in the short seat. Where's my leg room?! Being silly, because what else.

Brooke joined us for back of the bus fun. These photos all brought to you by my new selfie stick. Thanks Mom!

In the blue mountains, they have a teapot museum? I'm not sure how many people under the age of 60 go there... And our first views of the stunning landscape.

The three sisters mentioned above are in the middle of this photo--the three stones  that look like nubs :) Group photo! Daniel, me, Sam, Brooke, and Matt

Yet another group photo... we can't get enough. A closer up look of the 3 nubs (Sisters)

The canyon is beautiful! Although I will say that when I think of canyons I think of the ones we have in the US which are not quite so green/blue. A little waterfall near us in the valley.

A closer up view of the waterfall. And the platform for the steepest train in the world!

Yeah, Sam is not impressed with the steepest railway. Way too interested in trying to get the weefee (or wifi, but we've started to prefer pronouncing it weefee). Another view across the canyon

We decided to do the cliffhanger seat setting, meaning it was the steepest look down. Getting adventurous! Looking down at Sam and Matt as we wait for our turns

I added my own signature and message to the board, can you guess which one it is? Brooke and Daniel excited for the railway!

Mentally preparing for our journey.

Matt doesn't know how to look excited so me, Brooke, Daniel and Sam have to make up for him. Looking out over the valley!

Group photo at the bottom of the railway, We thought it would go further into the canyon but alas, it did not.

The rainforest, the tropical rainforest.

Pano of the beauty. And then looking up the track we just came down.

The platform for those riding back up the mountain. An older version of the car we rode in... doesn't exactly look safe does it? Perhaps rubble from a train crash? JK, they used to mine here.

Look at all the mining tools! More rainforest views

Looking back up at some damage caused by a rock fall. And then our course to get back up the mountain via the cable car.

Climbing up the mountain we go!

We made it!

So of course more selfies and group photos.

Can't get enough of the panos. And a lovely view of the harbor as we cruise back to the city.

More harbor views

Delicious pad thai that we had for dinner. I love me some pad thai. And angles of the harbour bridge.
