Day 2: The Food Tour of Copenhagen

We slept in a bit and started out midmorning for our first full day in Copenhagen with the group. Thankfully, the little bakery beneath our apartment had amazingly delicious pastries to help me get the second morning started off as well as the first. We decided to head to Paper Island and grab some food then walk around Christiana/Free Town then NyHavn to loop back towards our apartment. It was a full and interesting way to start the day!

My breakfast of champions. And then West sitting in what we were told (by the Danish boys) was a $10,000 chair. I would hope for $10,000 you could get something more comfortable but maybe that's not how they do it here. And then we got a group photo in the square. Back L to R: Pablo, West, Karl; Front L to R: Rosana, Cheryl, Daniel.

We got some scenic shots along our walk. Including this one of people drowning and chilling under the water.. Not real people, but it certainly looked that way and was definitely a bit creepy. But the amazing architecture helped us forget it all!

Can we live in these? That was the question we kept asking. Another group shot in front of a huge sailboat.

We thought the sailboat was pretty cool so we annoyed its workers by getting tons of pictures.

The canals of Copenhagen are wonderful!

We finally made it to Paper Island and we couldn't resist getting some photos with the ducks.seagulls. We're not sure which they are but we prefer to call them ducks. Because then West and I could make duck faces with the duck faces.

We also had to steer the ducks into the right direction so I helped with that.

Paper Island also had some wishing trees and I couldn't agree more with the wish on the left.

We walked into the complex and were greeted with the sights and smells of so many amazing foods.

It was almost impossible to choose what to eat!

But we chose quite well: a nice falafel salad and then a duck croque monsier which I'm pretty sure has to be the best thing to eat in that entire place.

We then walked to Christiana Free Town, a place where there are no rules and everything that is illegal you can pretty much get away with. So think the Purge except everyone is peaceful. We couldn't actually take any photos of the vendors as apparently they can still get in trouble if they are caught selling their illegal wares but it was still interesting to walk through.

Also had some cool homes as we walked along the way.

Very colorful. And we found the arched entrance to illegality!

Along our way to NyHavn, we saw some more picturesque canals and buildings.

Then the crown jewel of canals in Copenhagen. The contrast between the buildings, the water, and the boats made for quite a scenic picture.

So we took quite a few of them.

But still weren't satisfied so we took some more.

This building was stuffed to the gills with life jackets. I guess if there's ever a flood in Copenhagen, all citizens must report to this place and get a life jacket? Seemed like such a weird thing to have sticking out of window panes. Then we saw this cool painted mirror thing. And Karl wanted to wear the poop emoji so he did.

While I don't like Pepsi, I did like this mural.

After our morning/afternoon stroll, we went back to the apartment because we needed to freshen up before going to the best restaurant in the world! Or the pop-up version at least since  the real one is closed while they are changing locations. We had reservations at Noma Under the Bridge, which wasn't cheap but was worth every penny. I'm pretty sure it was one of the best (if not the best) meals of my life. I was so happy afterwards.

Views of the tent we were in under the bridge. It was essentially one long table for all the people who had made it on the list that night.

Group photo to prove we were there! And then the drinks/eats began. First was this focaccia bread with horseradish and something else to start us off. Delicious!

My slice of focaccia heaven. Then they served a fish bone broth that was delightful! Followed that up with these crab tacos, complete with edible flowers because why not?

Fourth course was the main dish: amazing filet of fish, some delicious new potatos, a salad, and then possibly my favorite of the night: the peas. These peas were heavenly! I do not know what they put in them but I am desperate to find out because they were so freaking wonderful! Who knew I could sing such praises for peas! We then had this taco like dessert that was filled with berry icecream and is way better than a choco taco. Not pictured was our final course of coffee and custard cake. A perfect way to end the meal.

West and I were so happy with our dessert. And then group picture after dinner outside the tent!

After dinner we needed to walk off all the food a bit so we headed over to meet with those who didn't join for dinner and then went on to Tivoli, the famous amusement park. It was starting to get a little cold and rainy so I didn't stay too long but some of the boys did and had a blast!

We talked of going to Legoland but alas, a little too far outside the city. Our meeting place after dinner was a nice Danish pub, complete with Danes on the walls.

They had all the elephant faces at Tivoli! So us Alabama grads (Jon, West, and myself) couldn't resist getting our picture with them.

They also had funny mirrors so we couldn't help playing around with those as well.

Who knew we could contort out bodies in such ways!

The park was beautiful so we got some shots of the scenery.

All in all, a great stop to Tivoli! We also rode the swings which gave us some great views of the city but unfortunately we weren't allowed to take our cameras up there--I imagine that has something to do with dropping them and them killing someone when it lands on their head. Playing it safe.

These are out of order for some reason but some good shots of us while out walking and then me just playing in the fountain per usual.
